Au Canada: We're Open for Business

My personal connection to Canada dates back to early childhood, growing up in Pennsylvania. When we wanted to escape the rigors of daily life, my family headed to Ontario. Niagara Falls and Toronto were frequent destinations, and many others followed. My love of hockey in middle school, followed by my love of open spaces soon after, did nothing to diminish my fascination with the great land to the north. From Mt. Carleton, the highest point in the Maritimes, to the St. Lawrence Seaway, the Rockies, the Yukon, the Kootenays and the BC Coastal Range, I’ve seen and experienced a lot over the years. And I’ve picked up a few local customs along the way.

It makes perfect sense that I’d eventually extend my management consulting northward, and I’m thrilled to announce that Public Interest Management Canada is open for business. A sister to US-focused Public Interest Management Group, PIM Canada is established to meet the distinctive needs of Canadian nonprofits.

Canada has a unique culture, and this translates to the ways nonprofits are funded, managed and integrated with public services. Canadian organizations play huge roles in their communities, and they have particular needs, some of which we hope to fill.

PIM Canada’s services will focus on financial sustainability, a core area of expertise developed under the PIMG umbrella over the past 12 years. We believe we have great opportunities to partner with community-based organizations and NGOs to enhance operations, services and long-term financial health, as well as increase the impact on Canadian communities.

The new PIM Canada website is online. Our team is beginning to take shape and will evolve over the next several months. We look forward to building relationships and identifying partnership opportunities.

Most importantly, we welcome advice, wisdom and suggestions from anywhere in the sector. Please reach out to us by email or phone, at (778) 402-1019 to start a conversation!

I also have two news items of relevance to nonprofits in BC:

Housing Central Conference, Vancouver, November 18

Hosted by BC Non-Profit Housing Association, this is one of the largest conferences of its kind in Canada, from November 17-19, 2019.

PIM’s Scott Schaffer will be presenting two sequential workshops on Financial Strategy for Non-Profit Leaders (sessions M05 in the morning and M24 in the afternoon). Register here.
